Blog Post for November 16, 2011: “The World? My Oyster.”
I still haven’t totally figured out the purpose for these blog posts. Just like I haven’t totally figured out what to use the @haroldastronaut Twitter account for (should it be comments about the strip by me, the artist? Or should it be Harold’s account, in Harold’s voice? I’m leaning towards the latter).
I also haven’t totally figured out how to guide comments about the strip. I’m hesitant to turn on commenting because I want the site to be as holistic an environment as possible–just Harold and Sally and the Miracle Machine. But I love to hear what people think about my work. For right now, if you have a comment, please leave it on the Harold the Astronaut Facebook page.
(Tease: my plan is to start an “email of the week” feature sometime in the new year, where you send me emails about Harold, and I send my favorite one a small original sketch in the mail. If the mail still exists in 2012, that is.)
But getting back to these blog posts.
Maybe I’ll use them to illuminate my artistic process (that’s a good idea). Maybe I’ll use them to explain the strip’s more obtuse jokes and gags (as if my sense of humor could ever be obtuse! Ha-ha…ha…heh…ahem). Maybe I’ll use them to advance fringe political beliefs (um, definitely not that one).
We’ll see. My gut tells me it’ll be a combination of process and explanation, but I’m still feeling it out. Though I’m definitely giving it a lot of thought. Just like I’m giving that Twitter feed a lot of thought.
Maybe Sally could occasionally hijack Harold’s account…or maybe the Miracle Machine could enact its miracles via Twitter every so often…
Hmm. Better start following @haroldastronaut!
